Artist Statement
With an infatuation for memory and reality, my creative practice investigates themes of detachment, time, and perception. It considers how truth and memory can alter reality by grappling with what is perceived as "true". Whether it is portraiture, landscapes, still life, animals, or nature, my photographs aim to form their own space and presence. I employ a variety of photographic techniques including digital photography, post-production, dramatic lighting, bold color, and physical manipulation to create satisfying compositions. With assorted lenses, lighting gels, and photographic materials, I construct dreamlike interpretations of reality. Time plays an important role in my creative process by incorporating long exposures, long term projects, and archival materials. Drawing inspiration from personal experience and intuition, I take on methods of distortion to challenge the viewer's perceptions.
